Breville

What I love about Breville is the emphasis on performance and durability, along with an appealing sense of aesthetics. We often test out new Breville products and adopt some of them, 24/7 in the BetterBaking.com Test Kitchen. Here are some of our newest treasures. They make super gifts for this season but are workhorse appliances that will inspire you in the kitchen and ensure great results with all your recipes. If someone doesn’t gift you with one of these fine products, indulge yourself!

The Crisp Crust by Breville is the quickest, easiest way to set up a pizzeria in your own kitchen. The interior stone preheats quickly and ensures bistro-style, hearth style homemade pizzas in minutes. Resembling a space ship or clam-shell (think of a large hamburger maker), the unit features an authentic pizza stone. It preheats and once the pizza is laid on it (it even makes frozen pizza taste great!),you close the lid. Inside the intense heat and short head-room, combine to replicate a commercial authentic brick pizza oven. Through the convenient window feature, you can see the pizza blister (just like the great pizzas from gourmet pizza restaurants!), bake to perfection.  A pizza peel is recommended but if you don't have one, make your pizza on a circle on parchment paper. Place in the oven, allow the pizza to set up and pull the parchment paper out within two minutes (to prevent burning). A great snack maker, perfect for parties, the Crispy Crust produces restaurant quality pizza in your home kitchen. Use it with our BetterBaking.Com Classic Pizza Dough or search the BB Recipe Index for other pizza recipes (doughs and sauces).

 Breville Juice Fountain Elite

http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/ (for YouTube videos using the Breville Juicer)

Juicing is trending but for those who long known the benefits of juicing as part of healthy lifestyle, and likely discovered those benefits decades ago, it’s not a surprise that fresh juices are part of good health . Moreover, fresh juicing can even assist weight loss. Why? The nutrition derived from fresh fruit and vegetables, finely distilled into vitamin packed juices is unrivaled. Dense nutrition is satisfying and a tonic for hunger pangs as well as subdues cravings. Opt for organic, and you take the benefits one step further. But then – which juicer to choose?

We tested a few juicers – some more expensive and some less and were not surprised, that traditionally beautifully designed and high performance Breville came out on top. It took everything we threw at it, was easy to use and became the BB test kitchen’s ‘juice center’.  It assembles easily and comes apart easily for clean up. Heavy duty but relatively quiet, this power machine made short work of fibrous vegetables as well as softer fruits. It also processes ice and we made fountain-fresh smoothies – fresh fruit and vegetable combinations (which you can also add kefir or yogurt to).  The directions and care booklet is a great source of tips and tricks, as well as recipes.

Breville Immersion Blender
http://www.breville.ca/beverages/immersion-blenders.html

Some people are blender chefs, I am an immersion blender sort of gal. I love immersion blenders such as this fine one from Breville because despite the nifty attachments, the simple unit does the job. What job? Smooth as silk hummus, purees soups, makes milkshakes and smoothies – all in a quick motion. It washes up in a snap and stores easily. Some immersion blenders are flimsy and one I tested actually results in the blades flying off and getting lost in a huge batch of pea soup! So, not all immersion blenders are created equal and the Breville one has a million and one uses and outperforms the rest.

Breville Smart Grinder
http://www.breville.ca/the-smart-grinder.html
A perfect coffee grinder with Dosing IQ

This is without doubt, the best grinder I’ve ever tested and it’s almost sensational enough to make houseware-of-the-year. Why? It’s gorgeous, for one thing. Sleek, electronic, it tucks away on the counter and takes up little space yet houses about a half pound or a bit more, of coffee grinds. It features state-of-the-art conical burr grinders that is companion to an automatic dosing (Dosing IQ) system. Doses are calibrated as per how many ‘shots’ of coffee you need – so you only grind exactly enough for the amount and type of coffee you’re making. The backlit LCD Screen clearly displays the grind setting, number of cups shots as well as the selected grind amount (featuring 25 different grind settings!). There’s also a handy choice of two portafiler cradles that allows you to grind directly into the filer you’re using. Did we also mention, it’s one of the quietest grinders on the market? This is an exceptional product that is in its own category of quality, performance and design.

Breville Slow Fast Cooker

http://www.breville.ca/the-fast-slow-cooker.html

What’s not to love about an appliance that combines the best of a slow cooker with the attributes of a pressure cooking? It’s two great appliances in one great machine that is a pro at delicately steaming vegetables as it is for slow-cooking grains, legumes (beans and peas), rice, risotto and oatmeal (the steel cut variety). Packed with features and built extra safe, this compact but huge capacity unit can make a stew in short time and then tenderize a huge brisket at the click of a button. Brisket done, try ribs? And then let it make a roasted chicken or steam corn to perfection. If you’re undecided about pressure cooker OR crock pot, this amazing appliances solves that whole conundrum plus performs as each – better than any single, dedicated duty pressure cooker or crock pot. Is it fast? How about a 5 minute pasta dish or chili with fresh beans in 20 minutes? This is another gift of the year appliance from Breville.

Breville Panini Press
http://www.breville.ca/panini-press.html
For some reason, everyone compares this grill to Cuisinart’s model and for my vote, Breville wins. I like the dual grill surfaces (smooth and grids), the floating hinge that accommodates various thicknesses (and styles) of bread, the heavy duty grill plates and the easy clean up (the grill wipes clean in seconds). It is an instant sandwich maker, Panini press or it does breakfast (waffles, eggs or pancakes) or switches to dinner duty and grills burgers or a steak like an expert. It’s a roomy grill but also somewhat compact and doesn’t hog up the counter nor overheat the surface. It’s a breeze to operate and results – no matter what you throw at it – speak for themselves. A winner.
