Baker's Caramel Where To Get It or How To Make It

This is easy to make but easier to buy. One small bottle should last a long time! It is used in Xmas Black Cake and an authentic Dark Rye or Pumpernickle Bread.

Baker's Caramel is simply burnt sugar. You simmer sugar on low heat in a heavy pan until it turns to the color and consistency of brewed coffee. In a pinch, you can substitute Kitchen Bouquet, a gravy browner available in most supermarkets in the soup area.
